The Leading Authority on Tax and Financial Planning, Health Care, and Estate Planning for the Elderly in New York
Joseph A. Rosenberg is an assistant professor at the City University of New York School of Law, where he co-directs the elder law clinic of Main Street Legal Services, the law school's nationally acclaimed clinical program. He is a graduate of Northwestern University, where he majored in human development and social policy. He received his law degree as a member of the inaugural class of the City University of New York School of Law (1986). He then worked as a staff attorney for the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York in Albany, where he specialized in government benefits, health law, and family law. He has organized an annual conference on future care planning for people with disabilities at CUNY School of Law (1995-97). He presented a paper entitled "A Nonadversarial Paradigm for Resolving Ethical Dilemmas" at U.C.L.A. Law School's Fourth International Clinical Conference (October, 1997). He has testified before the Committee on Aging of the New York City Council on elder abuse. He is active in a number of professional organizations, including the Committee on Legal Problems of the Aging of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the Elder Law and Trusts and Estates Sections of the New York State Bar Association, and the Elderly and Disabled Committee of the Queens County Bar Association. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Guardianship Association of New York State. His teaching, research, writing, and practice of law all focus on issues relating to the representation of older adults and people with disabilities. He has written articles and training materials on elder law issues and supplemental needs trusts and has made numerous presentations at conferences, bar association programs, and to community organizations serving the elderly and people with disabilities.
